Front-end developer (Lisbon/Amsterdam)

Do you want to work on a successful product and help take it to the next level? Timewax is looking for front-end or full-stack developers that want to help reshape our existing front-end applications. This is an opportunity to have a real impact on our front-end code, the user experience, but also on the technical choices we need to take going forward.

We’re in the process of exploring the following stack right now:

Vue.js using Gitlab’s development guidelines

Linting using Eslint and AirBnb’s JavaScript style guide and code formatting using Prettier

Unit testing using Jest

Component-driven development using Vue Styleguidist and Storybook

Modern EcmaScript with Babel as a transpiler

We’re also looking into concepts like GraphQL, domain-driven design and functional programming. We’re validating the choices above. That makes it a great time to come on board if you want to have an impact on our stack or want to learn from this process.

Help moving forward

“I think it’s a great challenge to explore the possibilities of Timewax together with the customer. So our software can help the customer’s company move forward.”

What can you expect to be working on?

A lot of greenfield development using modern front-end technologies

Help with the maintenance of our existing applications (i.e. fixing bugs if necessary)

Participating in our Scrum process and code reviews

If you want, you can also go beyond the bounds of front-end and explore backend and mobile development

What do we expect from you?

Good communication skills, both written and verbally, to be effective in our diverse team

Several years of experience as a developer (medior or senior level)

A passion for front-end development and delivering a great user experience

A solid grasp on software development fundamentals, particularly when it comes to front-end technologies like modern JavaScript and CSS

It would be a huge plus if you have experience using Sencha’s Ext.js framework

Experience with Ext.js isn’t mandatory, as we’re heavily investing in a modern front-end stack. If you don’t have that experience, we’ll help you become familiar with the platform so you can assist with maintenance work as needed.

So what makes Timewax a great place to work?

You’ll be well compensated at market rate, depending on your skill level and experience.

A lot of opportunities to take responsibility and grow, because the company is also growing rapidly.

Work hard, play hard (e.g. during the monthly social events, drinks after work or a quick break at the foosball table).

Lunch, sourced from local farmers, is facilitated by the company and enjoyed together every afternoon.

We have a flat management structure where everyone is approachable and valued.

The best thing about Timewax, though, is the people you get to work with. We have offices in Amsterdam and Lisbon and communicate in English. The majority at the Amsterdam office is still Dutch, so if you speak Dutch it helps, but it isn’t a requirement. You can take it from us that the team is a really smart and friendly bunch, but you can also find out for yourself during the interview process. You’ll get the chance to talk to some of your potential colleagues if you like.
